Dream pink bathroom rennovation
Renovating a Vintage-Inspired Bathroom in my LA home and Going Viral on TikTok
As a lover of vintage charm and quirky aesthetics, I knew I had to renovate my plain and boring bathroom in my LA home!
As a homeowner or while home hunting in Los Angeles, it's not uncommon to come across plain, uninspired bathrooms that seem to be a dime a dozen. Subway tile walls, honeycomb tile floors, and all-silver hardware have become the norm in modern flips, and that's exactly what had been put into our 1920's home. There's something special about a vintage-inspired bathroom that brings back the charm and whimsy. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and add back some character to the space!
First things first, I decided to switch out the old subway tiles for square tiles in a pink and creme checker pattern from Fire Clay Tile. This popular vintage style shape and color was a playful touch that made the bathroom stand out. I've grown to hate basic white subway tile in homes, so this made all the difference for me!
To further enhance the vintage-inspired vibe of the space I added arched niches to the wall. This was surprisingly easy to do when switching out the tile! It added depth and visual interest to the bathroom, giving it an elegant and unique feel that lends itself to the 1920's Spanish style architecture of our home. Now, I can display fun things like my intentionally matching soaps/shampoos or other decorative items in these niches and it looks so cute!
Next, I replaced the old bathtub with something cute and curvy from Signature Hardware that you can actually take a bath in. We also removed a wall next to the previous tub that opened up a ton of space in the bathroom too. Game changer!
To add even more character to the bathroom, I mixed prints and paired the checker tile with a bold and colorful 70's scalloped wallpaper. The playful wallpaper had a dash of pink that tied everything together.
And the final touch was adding a larger vanity with a stunning pink-rock Terrazzo top from Concrete Collaborative and a pink vessel sink from Concretti. The new vanity was perfect for storing all my bathroom essentials while still looking chic! Pedestal sinks are not it for personal bathrooms when it comes to storage.
The before and after transformation of the bathroom was truly remarkable, and I couldn't be happier with the result. It was so fun to add back all the retro Spanish style feels back into this space and really be able to design my dream bathroom. And speaking of fun, I posted a joke video on TikTok that went semi-viral. The video showed the renovation in reverse, and before people realized it was satire, they got so understandably upset! Clearly, there are a lot of people out there who feel the same way I do about charm being taken out of colorful, quirky bathrooms. But don't worry, I would never actually destroy such a beautiful renovation!
In the end, the renovation was a success, and I couldn't be happier with how the bathroom turned out. It's now a unique and playful space that truly represents my style and personality. Scroll to the bottom for all the links and sources :)
