Our first printed furniture collaboration with Joybird is designed to empower everyone to live their most maximal life. As a print, fashion, and interior designer, this is truly my dream collaboration. The common thread in all my design work is being bold and embracing color and pattern. I’m a true maximalist at heart and believe deeply in self expression in all parts of your life, from the home to what you wear. My work is heavily influenced by vintage design, and punchy prints on furniture are overdue for a comeback! Joybird is the perfect partner for this, being a brand that also embraces color and retro silhouettes. I’ve spent most of my career designing prints and clothing, and translating that onto furniture for the first time has been the coolest experience. I really hope this collection brings joy to people and empowers them to choose daring designs in their everyday life!

Background on the collaboration - When values and design sensibility collide
With their shared vision of empowering people to be boldly original, and bringing unique aesthetics to life, Joybird x Dani Dazey is the ultimate dream come true collaboration. Joybird’s commitment to color and customization, with over 90 fabrics and leathers to choose from, made them a go-to for Dani when designing interiors for her own spaces, as well as her clients. Similar to Dani and her brands, Joybird is committed to bold style with a conscience, prioritizing sustainability, craftsmanship, and customization. The Joybird x Dani Dazey collaboration is on a mission to empower people to be daringly original, and to design their world more fearlessly.
Quote from Gifty Walker, Joybird's Director of Merchandising & Product Sourcing
“Retro with a fresh, modern twist - that’s what comes to mind when I think of the Joybird x Dani Dazey collaboration. One of the Joybird mantras from the very beginning has been ‘be boldly you’, and Dani Dazey’s design couldn’t embody that more! The entire merchandising team was so excited to begin this journey, providing customers with pieces that were both boldly original and timeless classics.
Dani presented us with a few patterns, and it was almost impossible to narrow them down to just two, since they were all so good! Once we started putting them onto fabric swatches that’s where the magic really began. It was amazing to see the prints come to life on furniture. When I look at the finished product, I feel inspired to take more design risks, and empowered to bring more fun into my space. I’m hoping customers share those feelings as they welcome this collaboration into their homes.”
Renovating a Vintage-Inspired Bathroom in my LA home and Going Viral on TikTok
As a lover of vintage charm and quirky aesthetics, I knew I had to renovate my plain and boring bathroom in my LA home!
As a homeowner or while home hunting in Los Angeles, it's not uncommon to come across plain, uninspired bathrooms that seem to be a dime a dozen. Subway tile walls, honeycomb tile floors, and all-silver hardware have become the norm in modern flips, and that's exactly what had been put into our 1920's home. There's something special about a vintage-inspired bathroom that brings back the charm and whimsy. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and add back some character to the space!
First things first, I decided to switch out the old subway tiles for square tiles in a pink and creme checker pattern from Fire Clay Tile. This popular vintage style shape and color was a playful touch that made the bathroom stand out. I've grown to hate basic white subway tile in homes, so this made all the difference for me!
To further enhance the vintage-inspired vibe of the space I added arched niches to the wall. This was surprisingly easy to do when switching out the tile! It added depth and visual interest to the bathroom, giving it an elegant and unique feel that lends itself to the 1920's Spanish style architecture of our home. Now, I can display fun things like my intentionally matching soaps/shampoos or other decorative items in these niches and it looks so cute!
Next, I replaced the old bathtub with something cute and curvy from Signature Hardware that you can actually take a bath in. We also removed a wall next to the previous tub that opened up a ton of space in the bathroom too. Game changer!
To add even more character to the bathroom, I mixed prints and paired the checker tile with a bold and colorful 70's scalloped wallpaper. The playful wallpaper had a dash of pink that tied everything together.
And the final touch was adding a larger vanity with a stunning pink-rock Terrazzo top from Concrete Collaborative and a pink vessel sink from Concretti. The new vanity was perfect for storing all my bathroom essentials while still looking chic! Pedestal sinks are not it for personal bathrooms when it comes to storage.
The before and after transformation of the bathroom was truly remarkable, and I couldn't be happier with the result. It was so fun to add back all the retro Spanish style feels back into this space and really be able to design my dream bathroom. And speaking of fun, I posted a joke video on TikTok that went semi-viral. The video showed the renovation in reverse, and before people realized it was satire, they got so understandably upset! Clearly, there are a lot of people out there who feel the same way I do about charm being taken out of colorful, quirky bathrooms. But don't worry, I would never actually destroy such a beautiful renovation!
In the end, the renovation was a success, and I couldn't be happier with how the bathroom turned out. It's now a unique and playful space that truly represents my style and personality. Scroll to the bottom for all the links and sources :)
Renovating a Mid-Century Home: Achieving the Perfect Blend of Style and Functionality!
Links to all products used at the bottom of this post!
Mid-century is one of my favorite eras in design. It never goes out of style and always captures our hearts with its timeless charm. So, when it came time to renovate the kitchen in my own mid-century home in Palm Springs (which is also available for rental on Airbnb), I knew I had to approach it with care and respect for the original design.
The original kitchen, designed by the amazing architect William Krisel in 1959, was a true masterpiece of mid-century design. It was untouched and perfectly preserved, complete with vintage cabinets, countertops, and appliances. But, as much as I loved it, it was no longer safe or practical for guests staying in the home. The appliances were just not cutting it anymore, and it was time for a change. The city even turned off the gas line as the oven wasn't up to code!
So, I set out on a mission to renovate the kitchen, blending the original mid-century style with practicality and comfort for guests. I wanted to keep the mid-century vibe alive and well, so I went with the most awesome colorful Smeg appliances that would fit right in! And, to achieve the perfect mix of style and functionality, I turned to Reform CHP for custom cabinetry that was both beautiful and practical. The cabinets were color-blocked in custom warm retro shades and solid wood, and Reform CHP was able to customize any shape to fit the kitchen! The terrazzo counters and patterned backsplash from Concrete Collaborative added the perfect touch of mid-century style, with the abstract print of the backsplash and the terrazzo texture lending themselves perfectly to the aesthetic.
During the kitchen renovation, we also decided to tackle the floors in all the bedrooms. The previous owners had painted the concrete floors a drab grey color, which just wasn't my style as a lover of bold and colorful design. So, I painted them a cheerful orange to match the overall theme of the house. Orange is seriously the most underrated color and adds so much personality to any space!
However, we soon realized that we didn't properly seal the orange paint, and it was a hassle to touch up. So, we decided to give the bedrooms a complete floor makeover to match the living room, kitchen, and bathroom, which were already beautifully tiled with Fireclay tile oblong checkers. Since the house was already going to be under construction, we saw the perfect opportunity to make the bedrooms just as stunning.
I knew I wanted to use the same abstract tile as the backsplash to keep the continuity in the house, and it turned out to be the perfect choice! The abstract tile meshed seamlessly with the existing room designs and looked like it had been there all along. It also complemented the checkered floor in the living room, kitchen, and bathroom perfectly, creating a cohesive look throughout the entire home.
Renovating a mid-century home is all about balancing style and practicality, and I couldn't be happier with the end result! I did receive some backlash from people who were worried about changing the original kitchen, but I hope I did it justice and added even more charm and personality to the space. Whether you're an interior designer or a homeowner, I hope this renovation story inspires you to embrace mid-century design and make it your own!
(Hi Dani here! Omg I just have to tell you I had Chat GPT write this blog based off of some notes I gave it and I am blown away how it perfectly articulated what I wanted to say. The future is wild y'all.)
KITCHEN BEFORE
From when we first got it, all white with grey floors. To paint and tiled floors. To full on makeover reveal with new cabinets, appliances, backsplash, lighting, and counters.

Such an upgrade from the very first photo of when we got the home.
FLOORS BEFORE (BOTH GREY AND ORANGE) & IN PREP FOR NEW TILE
From grey, to orange, to tile print explosion.
AFTER, SO MUCH BETTER
The final floors really pull the space together and make it special. Tile is also a lot more durable than paint!
I could not be more excited to introduce you to my first ever printed tile collection. I’m a major lover of tile and when my friends at Haustile reached out to do a collaboration, I knew it was a match made in maximal heaven! Haustile is fully female-owned and based in Nashville where they make their tile to order using a super cool process of glaze-printing. We flew out a few weeks ago and set up an epic photoshoot with the Haustile team for our collection. Read about how our collaboration came about below and check out the bold and unexpected photos from out shoot. You can shop the full collection now HERE!
Xx Dani Dazey
Our maximalist love story as told by Haustile:
It goes down in the DM’s. Like any modern love story, we stumbled upon maximalist maven Dani Dazey on Instagram this time last year. Fascinated by her use of patterns in interior spaces, we messaged her and began bonding over a mutual love for excessive color. When the Dazey LA founder was cast as the designer for The Trixie Motel, we joined forces to create custom tiles for the lobby, guest rooms, and pool to exemplify Trixie and Dani’s over-the-top style. It was an easy match, and 6 months later we joined forces to bring an official Haustile x Dazey LA collab to the masses!
“I get a lot of inquries from design and decor brands, but they really stood out to me with their unique and bold tile. I knew this was something special,” says Dazey. “When I designed the Trixie Motel, I reached out and collaborated with Haustile on a few custom prints and they came out amazing. We knew we had to make something cool together that everyone could enjoy.”
Dani selected the designs and colors to coordinate with the Dazey LA Fall 2022 fashion collection. “I love art and color and I think that really comes across in my designs from fashion, prints, to interiors,” says Dazey. “I design all the prints by hand and really want them to have a bespoke hand-drawn look and feel.” A maximalist in all senses of the word, Dani is using the same motifs for her (soon to launch) furniture collection with JoyBird, her clothing line, and now tile. Pattern everywhere!
“Fashion and home have so many overlaps and I’ve discovered my background in art and graphic design has seamlessly lent itself to designing home goods as well,” says Dazey. “I really like to think of my interior or home good design process more like planning and designing a clothing collection.”
Dani’s designs evoke messages of resilience, bravery, and self-expression. They're ultra vertical-friendly, and we jumped at the opportunity to make them in an 8”x 8” format—the first of it’s kind from Haustile! The can be installed indoors and outdoors as floor tile, or used as wall tile to create a wallpaper-like effect.
Our printing process is what sets us apart, and it’s what allows us to push the boundaries of creativity with artists like Dani. Using state-of-the-art Italian glaze technology, we run tiles through an inkjet the size of the bedroom. The printer, who we lovingly call Sophie, laser-glazes onto the ceramic canvas, transforming Dani’s designs from sketch to tile in just a few hours.
So excited to finally share all the details of this amazing 4 bed 2 living room home with ya'll! As someone who does social media as well as design, I've sort of carved a niche out for myself designing spaces for content creation. My client Lena needed a space where she can create content, but also wanted to be able to rent it out for shoots to others. As an adult entertainer and major OnlyFans star, Lena had a hard time finding places that would let her shoot. So she bought this house literally just for CONTENT! Which is so cool because I was really able to go wild. Since we wanted a variety of "set" backdrops we didn't really have to stick to theme and went a few fun directions.
Lena loves the victorian aesthetic and this is a style I had been dying to do in my maximal colorful style. We went with victorian vibes in the living room, main bedroom, library room, and glam room. The den was so retro already with wood paneling and terrazzo floors, so leaned into that. Keeping in the retro theme, we also gave the kitchen a fun 50s/60s feel. And then we kept one room more minimal but with pops of yellow. There was a lot of rooms to work with and we wanted a more neutral option for photos.
Something that design really did to this space was bring back the character. We swapped ugly "updated" recessed lighting with semi-flush mounts in almost all the rooms and it made a huge difference. In the kitchen I painted little floral murals around the ones we kept and it totally changed the vibe from drab to fab. We also added all sorts of stunning custom trim and wainscoting on both the walls and ceilings. Of course went WILD with wallpaper as always! I have all the products linked at the bottom as well as all the before and after photos. Feel free to save, pin, and share!
Seek Sunshine is a beacon of color and joy in a normally muted and dark season. Dazey is all about shining bright and being bold in a world that likes to blend in with shades of beige. Play up your personality with playful motifs, abstract shapes, and colors as always. The perfect fits designed to fit your maximal lifestyle.
Everything in this collection is a conversation piece, because you’re worth talking about! From new soft velvet-corduroy fabrics to playful silhouettes. Special design details like wavy collars and edges. Even our version of a 3-piece suit.
The prints are meant to evoke a sunny spring feeling. Leaning into a few classic Dazey favorites like flowers and figured. All hand drawn by Dani Dazey and made in small batches in DTLA. Florals for fall? Actually groundbreaking.
We produced everything from this collection in extremely small batches, so if you love something, don't wait long!
Our first candle and expansion of our home section
Meet Mimo and Marg. Our first candle collab with @dazey_la x @infavorof. Designed with @danidazey using her original print for package design and unique printed vessel that turns into a cup when your candle is done. Perfect printed aesthetic to match your maximal lifestyle, wether its filled with a beverage flavored candle or your favorite drink.
This is the first of hopefully many items added to our newly dedicated home section of the website, the Dazey Den.
Dani worked directly with the team at Favor to test and pour over so many scents until we got it just right. The two flavors are paired perfectly with hints of other flavors and are SO TASTY (to smell lol).
Mimo: That Sunday morning brunch euphoria has finally been preserved. Indulge in a citrusy scent of effervescence with hints of fresh cut grass, reminiscent of dewy summer mornings and champagne flutes.
Marg:
It’s the best of tropical paradise, on the rocks. Immerse yourself in the scent of salt and citrus while sweet notes of strawberry guava complete the profile. If this doesn’t make you crave a strong marg, what will?
Plus you'll have gorgeous new cups to enjoy the actual drinks from when it's done!
What Reality TV show is complete without a wedding?
I couldn't finish off this series of blog posts for the motel without including the story of mine and Phillips wedding day. The first (of many) weddings that will happen at the Trixie Motel and truly the best day of this whole wild experience that I am so thankful we were chosen to be part of.
I first need to thank all the wonderful people who helped make this day so special, including florals by Wild Muse floral, and photography by Tim Melideo. This amazing team of people, along with the cast and crew that turned into family, made our day so magical and one we will never forget.
Wedding Story
Phillip and I have been together for over 8 years now, so it was about time we made it official. We survived a pandemic together, a TV renovation show, raise two doggie babies, and work together full time on both Dazey LA and Dazey Den. We had planned on getting hitched last year, but then I landed my job on Trixie Motel. Little did we know this amazing opportunity would turn into a wedding too! If you watch our show Trixie Motel on Discovery+, you heard that we were supposed to get engaged at the same motel, previously the Coral Sands. This is ABSOLUTELY TRUE. As aforementioned, we have been together awhile, and I just knew Phillip was going to propose on my 30th bday. I wanted a funky and cute spot with a pretty backdrop to get those good engagement photos ;) Found the motel on Airbnb and tried to book, but to my dismay the previous owner Ruby Montana said she had sold the motel after 20 years of ownership. Little did we know something better was on the horizon. So we booked somewhere else for my birthday, got engaged, and more or less forgot about the Pink Palm Springs motel. A few months later I was contacted by a talent scout, tried out for the show, and landed the gig. When they sent me the show details I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw what motel it was! Little did I know it would end up being the place we got married. And never could have guessed I would have a TV wedding. Pretty damn magical!
Our wedding was in the middle of the pandemic, a TV show set, and planned pretty last minute. So we kept it tight with the cast, crew, and celebrity guests Gigi Gorgeous and Jonathan Bennett. Nevertheless it was a beautiful and special day that means so much to us. Plus having our dear friend and drag superstar Trixie Mattel officiate the wedding was pretty damn amazing. And as a surprise at the end of the wedding Trixie wrote and preformed a really beautiful song for Phillip and I that made me cry. Talk about a day to remember!
It was really important to have the wedding represent me as a designer. Nontraditional, colorful, unique, quirky, and elevated. Lucky for me I had already designed the entire venue LOL. I mean, it doesn't get better than being able to get married at a space you helped design that's exactly your vibe. I went with a sort of "tacky chic" feel. I really wanted it to feel like me, and wish more weddings tried to do this vs just going with what you are supposed to do or wear. I had been planning this on Pinterest already for awhile haha. Here's my board if you need some inspo too:
As a clothing designer it only made sense that I designed my own wedding look, from the print, dress, to the shoes! A white dress was basically against everything I stand for, so knew I had to make it colorful and have a print. I decided to go with something simple, playful, and pink. I loved the idea of having something kinda saucey and non-bridal, hence see-through fabric. Plus it was so Palm Springs to have a swim suit underneath. And that did come in handy as you can see below lol. I feel like the casual mesh fabric mixed with the frilly silhouette was just so perfect and felt spot on for a no-fuss fabulous wedding. Naturally I had to made it for Dazey LA too!
Trixie Motel Check- in, Lobby Lounge & Pool Reveal- Designed by Dani Dazey
This past year I went on the journey of my life as a designer and human being. I was chosen among hundreds of designers to design the Trixie Motel. A 7 bedroom motel in Palm Springs California, purchased by drag icon Trixie Mattel. Not only were we renovating and designing a run down motel, but the whole process was filmed and is now a TV show streaming on Discovery+! I began the designing and pre production on the show started in early 2021, and by fall we were breaking ground in Palm Springs. I lived in a hotel during filming with my fiancè and two dogs for almost 5 months. I was one of the most difficult yet rewarding experiences of my life. And now I finally get to share what we did with you all :)
FINALE INSIDE SCOOP, DANI DAZEY'S YOUTUBE
Still can't believe the final episode is out and the whole motel is revealed! While it's sad that we have no more Trixie Motel Fridays, it's also really exciting that I can start sharing ALL my content. Because I got A LOT, and the sharing is just getting started. I just published my first episode recap of Trixie Motel on Youtube and starting with the Finale first to keep it fresh. I'll be going through every week starting back at Episode 1 and doing a room recap of each.
Lobby Love
The Lobby is my actual favorite room in the motel. It's really a grand room with beautiful details like the large fireplace and vaulted ceilings. The first design I pitched Trixie and David was more art deco and included blue and pink. David pointed out that it felt a little too "gender reveal" (true lol), and it was more Trixie to go all pink in the lobby. We hadn't really messed around with monochrome at this point, so I was down for the challenge. The one piece we knew was going to be in the room from the start was this amazing framed portrait of Trixie. It's mostly pink. but done have some other colors in it that I tried to tie back in with my custom wallpaper design. Otherwise this room is pretty damn pink! Playing with tones helps the monochrome make sense and while it's mostly one color, there's still a flow and highs and lows. I designed a custom banquette with a heart motif that turned out so pretty, but also functional. With brass outlets installed so you can charge your phone or work form the lobby. In the center of the room I tried to create a conversation pit area. I imagined 4 friends staying up late chatting with drinks by the fire. Speaking of drinks, we got the permits and were able to build a bar for the lobby! I had a lot of help from Phillip and our Art Dept producer Gregory Powell in making it a functional commercial kitchen/bar. But we also made it cute with custom tile and wallpaper accents. We really hit that goal of creating Trixie Mattel's Mid Century Modern living room!
Classy Checkin
More monochrome magic, but with a little mauve thrown in. We originally planned to go all blush here as well. But we weren't able to source the slabs I had in mind with our time crunch, David Rios discovered this really beautiful textured marble in mauve. We all loved it right away and I was determined to tie it in. I painted an arch in a similar color last min, swapped the drapes, added more mauve accents, accents, and we made it work. We also used a custom tile design I got to create since the space was smaller, but we wanted it to be special. I think it's such a happy welcome to the motel and screams Trixie Mattel.
Pool Please
The pool was our problem child all season and all renovation. Lots of back and forth about what to do and how to make it feel colorful and unique. I originally wanted to tile the whole deck and paint a mural in the pool, but I tend to be a little overly ambitious haha. We quickly realized this would be too costly and also illegal, thank you again Palm Springs city code. Apparently you can't paint a commercial pool anything but blue. But we've had to get creative this whole project and not only made it work, but made it marvelous. The painted concrete and rays really stand out and have a high impact. I tied in the pink and white stripe theme over and over through the pool tile lining, umbrellas, and towels. The aerial shots of this new pool deck give me life.
While our journey is over, it meant so much sharing this journey with you. Interacting with our audience has been amazing and brings me joy everyday. The journey is not yet over, because soon people will be experiencing the motel for themselves! I can't wait to see guests enjoying this special place. I think that will be the most fulfilling part of this whole process. I LOVE YOU ALL!
Thank you so much for watching Trixie Motel every Friday on Discovery+. If you are interested in any of the pieces in this room I have included links at the bottom of this page to the same (or similar) items so you can create your own spaces inspired by these designs :)
Also everything you see me wear here and in the show is hand drawn and designed by me for my brand Dazey LA. AKA the website you're on right now! All sustainably and ethically made right here in Los Angeles. Clothing design has been my main thing for the past 12 years and I started Dazey LA 6 years ago and have been bootstrapping it since. They didn't really highlight that on the show and I've been getting a ton of questions, so I gotta promote it myself ;) You can shop these styles and support our small business right here.

Trixie Motel Oh Honeymoon Suite Reveal - Designed by Dani Dazey
Here's our Oh Honeymoon suite! A bee and honey themed room, designed to be a retro sexy getaway for honeymooners. The design of this room I feel is the most applicable to everyday life. You could absolutely have a bedroom designed like this without it feeling like a theme motel. I really leaned into the retro and honeycomb feel with fun details like this "honey disco light". This is the biggest suite of the motel and the one with the most massive changes. From removing a closet to add a banquette, to totally ripping out and changing the footprint of the bathroom.
In the original motel this room was connected to the lobby and the owner actually used this as her bedroom. We ended up using the previous hallway space to expand the bathroom and create a true honeymoon dream setup, complete with two shower-heads and double vanity! We retiled the whole bathroom with hexagon shapes in the color scheme of the room.
The floor and ceilings of this room are just so special. I always say ceilings and floors are the most forgotten surfaces in design, and I wasn't going to let that happen at Trixie Motel. We ended up going with a classic linoleum floor, but made it feel fresh and fun by creating a zig zag pattern with the squares. This was such an affordable, durable, and beautiful solution to the floors.
The honeycomb walls were a wild idea I had from the start, and I'm so happy everyone was on board and we were able to make it happen. Special shout out to Marc from Total Design Furniture for brining my vision to life. These were wood panels that he padded and upholstered that we velco'd to the walls to create a channel tufting look, and also a bee-hive vibe. What's nice is they were easy to make and install, and can be swapped out individually if needed!
I love this room so much and it was also a very special episode where Trixie Mattel officiated Phillip and I's wedding :) don't worry, a whole separate blog post on that will be coming soon!
Be sure to continue to watch the rest of the room reveals on Trixie Motel every Friday on Discovery+. If you are interested in any of the pieces in this room I have included links at the bottom of this page to the same (or similar) items so you can create your own at home honeymoon suite :)
